Supermarket hands over expired food items worth N175m to Kano govt

Sufaye Investment, owners of the supermarket, promised to continue  partnering with the council to protect the consumers in the state and country at large.

Food and drinks worth N175 million have been destroyed by a  major supermarket operator in Kano State, Sufaye Investment Limited.

According to report, the supermarket proprietor voluntarily handed over the expired food items to the state government for destruction.

Reporting by Daily Trust said the food and drinks were handed to the Kano Consumer Protection Council (KCPC) for onward destruction by chairman of the supermarket, Alhaji Ahmed Sufi. 

The chairman says Sufaye Investment will continue to partner with the council to protect the consumers in the state and country at large.

Officials of KCPC have been raiding several markets to rid the state of expired and adulterated products with its last cache of destruction worth over N300million.

Acknowledging the voluntary gesture of the mall, the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, in a commendation letter, praised Sufaye as being a worthy ambassador of soft drinks and water dealers as well as other edible food items in the state.

The chairman Taskforce on consumer protection council, Baffa Baba Danagundi, on his part, said the chairman of the mall had also been assisting the task force in fishing out sellers of expired goods in the state.
