Kano residents troop out to protest, march towards Govt House

Kano Gov, Yusuf had earlier said  intending protests can submit their letters of demands for onward transmission to President Tinubu

Hundreds of protesters in Kano State have joined their counterparts in other parts of Nigeria to participate in the ongoing nationwide demonstration.

The protesters, who are majorly young people shut down the ancient city carrying placards with different inscriptions as they match towards the Government House.

The demonstrators who commenced their actions from within the city, in places like Gama, Tudun Wada, Tudun Murtala, and other similar neighbourhoods, came out en masse with their bodies painted in different colours.

In other parts of the city, such as Hotoro, Maiduguri Road and Ahmadu Bello Way, teenage boys were seen carrying dangerous weapons while some of them were shouting, “We need urgent actions from government.”

However, armed police officers,  operatives of NSCDC and DSS , who were earlier deployed to strategic locations swiftly confiscate the weapons from the protesting youths.

Prior to this development, Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf had assured intending protests that they can peacefully come to the Government House and submit their demands, which he promised to take personally to the president.

“I will not run away. I will wait and receive them at the Government House to collect their demands and deliver same to the Federal Government, so long as they conduct themselves peacefully,” the governor said.
