The Kano State House of Assembly has passed as bill to establish additional four emirates and four first class emirs in the state.
The State’s Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, also promised to assent the bill into law as soon as it is presented to him.
Channels Television reported that Governor Ganduje assented the bill seeking the establishment of four additional first class Emirates in Kano State.
The report said earlier, the Kano State House of Assembly had passed the bill for the creation of four additional first class Emirates to be situated in Rano, Gaya, Karaya and Bichi.
The bill, initiated on Monday, May 6, passed first reading on Tuesday, and then scaled through second and third reading on Wednesday.
By the bill, which may become law any time from now, Kano will have five Emirs and Emir Muhammadu Sanusi’s sphere of influence will be limited to only eight local governments.
At the plenary, there were no opposition to the bill. A source told our reporter that the move has the blessing of the presidency. He said security measures have been put in place to suppress likely protest.
