Kane also argued that scoring over 100 goals in a season does not guarantee a striker would win the Ballon d’Or.

Bayern Munich forward, Harry Kane, has suggested that lifting the UEFA Champions League (UCL) and World Cup trophies is a prerequisite for winning the Ballon d’Or award.

The England captain made the assertion  during a recent interview with the UK Mirror.

According to the former Spurs striker, this does not apply to him alone, as Manchester City’s Erling Haaland is in the same boat.

Speaking during the chat, Kane noted that even if he scores over 100 goals this season, he might still miss out on the Ballon d’Or.

He added that winning elite European and World Cup trophies are what count in who emerges as the winner.

He said, “I could score 100 goals this season but if I don’t win the Champions League or the World Cup, you’re probably not going to win the Ballon d’Or. It’s the same with Haaland, with any player. You have to be winning those major trophies.”

Kane is expected to be one of the favourites to win next year’s Ballon d’Or.

The 30-year-old has started this season in stunning fashion and already has 13 Bundesliga goals and five in the Champions League.

He also led England to book their place in the 2026 World Cup and ensured the team won all their qualifier matches without conceding a goal.
