Senator representing Abia North senatorial district, Orji Uzor Kalu, has said former National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),
Abdullahi Ganduje left the position to attend to the health challenges he is facing.

Kalu, who is the chairman of Senate Committee on South East Development Commission (SEDC), made this known during a recent interview on Channels Television.

TheNiche had earlier reported that Ganduje’s sudden resignation generated heated debate among netizens as many Nigerians did not see it coming.

Ganduje, a former two-term governor of Kano State, resigned from the party’s exalted position last week, citing urgent and personal matters.

The APC while reacting to the development said it has accepted his resignation and putting plans in motion to replace him.

Speaking on the exit of the former APC chairman during the chat, Kalu said it was the right thing to do.

“I was just with the national Chairman two weeks ago in his house, and we had a lot to discuss about health, about the party, about every other thing.

“So health issues are what you can never put your eyes or your ears or your mind to,” the former governor of Abia State said.

However, while reacting to suggestions that Ganduje’s resignation is a strategy to win the 2027 presidential election and an avenue to welcome the National Leader of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) Rabiu Kwakwanso to the APC, the senator dismissed the claims.

Kalu went on to insist that Ganduje “is a very close friend of the President” adding that the former chairman cannot lie about his health. .

He added, “Nigerians, whether small or big, should believe him because he has no problems with the president. In my deepest opinion, even if Kwankwaso is coming to the party he has nothing to do with it. It’s absolutely his decision to step down. It’s absolutely his decision to look after his health, after all, health is wealth.

“So can he really be running around from pillar to post, from Sokoto to Rivers, from Kebbi to Calabar, from Yobe to Abia and to Lagos, post to post?

“It’s a quite a difficult job to be done. So honestly, I believe him. Any other person can say what they want, but I know that President is very bold enough. He’s very courageous. He can tell him, step down, your services are no longer required, but I don’t think[that’s the case].

“They are quite close. And mind you, when he was governor, he was the first governor among all people that supported President Tinibu openly before any other thing.

“So I think Nigeria should learn to believe their leaders…”
