An Imo State lawmaker, Arthur Egwim, has died in Lagos following a surgery for an undisclosed ailment.
Egwim, who was the representative of the Ideato North State Constituency at the Imo state House of Assembly, died on Monday.
A statement on Tuesday signed by the Speaker of the house, Emeka Nduka (APC Ehime Mbano), confirmed the incident.
He said, “With heavy heart, but with total submission to the will of God, we, the members of Imo State House of Assembly, wish to announce the death of one of our own, a ranking parliamentarian of note and a strong voice in IMHA, Rt. Hon Barr Innocent Arthur Egwim, who untill his death he represented Ideato State Constituency, whose sudden death took place on Monday, the 27th March, 2023 after a brief illness.”

The speaker further noted that his death will create a vacuum in the house as he was one of the house’s “finest and best brains” and prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
Egwim was first elected into the eighth assembly in 2015 and had served as its chief whip.
He contested for the House of Representatives seat in the just-concluded National Assembly elections under the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) but was unsuccessful.
