JUST IN: Court grants bail to Ooni’s former wife, Oriyomi Hamzat, principal

An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has granted bail to Naomi Silekunola, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife.
The court also granted bail to Oriyomi Hamzat, founder of Agidigbo FM, and Abdulahi Fasasi, the principal of Islamic High School.
Justice Kamorudeen Olawoyin, presiding over Court 8, delivered the ruling on Monday following a bail application filed by their legal counsel.
The judge outlined five bail conditions, including the payment of N10 million each and the provision of two sureties each who must submit landed property documents within the court’s jurisdiction.

The court also directed the defendants to submit their international passports and should not grant media interviews.
The trio are standing trial over the stampede that led to the death of 35 children at the school during a funfair on December 18, 2024.
Oyo State Government on January 10, 2025, filed a fresh 18-count criminal charge against them.
Instituted at the Oyo State High Court, the government accuses the trio of offences including conspiracy to commit murder, manslaughter and criminal negligence.
The charges are brought under Sections 308, 344, and 517 of the Criminal Code, CAP 38, Vol II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The school principal, Mr Fasasi, faces an additional four-count charge related to conspiracy, negligence and failure to ensure safety at the event.
