JUST IN: Again, fire erupts at Balogun Market

According to Adeseye, ”The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently attending to a Fire outbreak at the famous Balogun Market which involved the topmost floor of a five-storey building.”

Fire broke out on Tuesday morning in some parts of Balogun Market on Lagos Island, destroying several items.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire erupted at 32 Balogun Plaza where women’s shoe dealers are situated.

Confirming the incident, Jubril Gawat, a media aide of the state governor, said that “two divisions of our Lagos Fire Service are on ground already.”

He said that firefighters from the United Bank of Africa are also helping the state’s operatives to combat the fire.

The state emergency responders, including Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Nigeria Police and a couple of other security agencies have arrived and cordoned off the area for effective rescue operation.

Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, when contacted said the situation had been brought under control as of 10.30 am.

According to Adeseye, ”The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently attending to a Fire outbreak at the famous Balogun Market which involved the topmost floor of a five-storey building.

“The fire is however under control as mitigation is on to limit its spread.”
