The Ondo State House of Assembly has reelected Mrs. Jumoke Akindele as the new Speaker of the House.
Akindele, who represents Okitipupa constituency II, was returned as new speaker after she was nominated by Olamide George from Akure North constituency.
Olotu Fatai from Akoko North East was elected deputy speaker, having been nominated by Adeniyi Coker Malachi who represents Ilaje constituency II.
The election of Fatai surprised not a few people at the event since he hails from Ikare- Akoko, hometown of the state deputy governor, Lasisi Oluboyo who was recently appointed to replace former Deputy Governor Alli Olanusi who was impeached having decamped to All Progressive Congress (APC).
The new Assembly commenced business immediately with the election of speaker and deputy speaker after the dissolution of the seventh Assembly.
The newly-elected presiding officers were sworn into office by the Clerk, after which the new speaker administered the oath of office on other members.
The new Assembly, which consists of 26 members, has five from the All Progressive Congress, (APC), and 21 from Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).
The eighth Assembly was proclaimed at 12.10 pm by Clerk of the House, Bode Adeyelu, on behalf of the governor, who failed to attend the inauguration.
The Speaker, Jumoke Akindele, had earlier dissolved the seventh Assembly after a valedictory session.
Tears of affection flowed as old members walked out of the hallowed chamber.
