Judge bars Rivers Administrator, Ibas from appointing LGA coordinators

The judge ruled that Ibas should appear before the court to show cause why the applicant’s plea should not be granted

By Kehinde Okeowo

Newly appointed sole administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has been restrained from appointing coordinators to manage the affairs of the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state by a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, the capital of the South-South state.

The restraining order, which was issued by presiding judge, Adamu Mohammed, was granted after an ex parte application was filed by Pilex Centre for Civic Education Initiative, a Civil Society Organisation (CSO) led by Courage Nsirimovu.

The court document also listed the state’s sole administrator as the only respondent in the suit.

Nsirimovu also deposed to a 14-paragraph affidavit to support the application.

The applicant prayed the court for an order of interim injunction restraining the respondent, his agents, and/or anyone acting through him or for him or on his instruction or authority from appointing the sole administrator or whatever name so called for the twenty-three local government areas of Rivers state.

Counsel to the applicant, A. O. Imiete, moved the motion for the ex parte application.

The judge, after listening to the motion, granted the application and ruled that the respondent should appear before the court to show cause why the application should not be granted.

The case was later adjourned to April 14 for hearing.
