Former militant, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, yesterday replied former defence minister, Gen. T. Y. Danjuma, who called for his arrest over his inflammatory statements at a time Nigeria needs peace.
In his response, Tompolo reiterated his recent declaration that President Goodluck Jonathan must win next month’s election for Nigeria to continue to stay united.
He also lashed out at Danjuma for calling for his arrest, asking where the general was when Mallam Ciroma Adamu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and the Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi made inciteful statements to make Nigeria ungovernable.
He also wondered why Jonathan’s convoy was stoned in Katsina and Bauchi states while Buhari enjoyed a peaceful atmosphere when he campaigned in the Niger Delta states.
Danjuma had in Kano condemned those making reckless and provocative statements, adding that the time has come for the federal government to arrest some former Niger Delta militants, including Tompolo, leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Mujahid Asari-Dokubo among others.
But Tompolo in a statement signed by his media adviser, Comrade Paul Bebenimibo, condemned “the call by Gen. T. Y. Danjuma (rtd) to arrest me and other agitators for a better living for the people of the Niger Delta region.”
“Is Gen. Danjuma not aware of the peaceful atmosphere when Gen. Buhari visited Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa (home state of the president) states for campaign? Why is it that President Jonathan’s convoy was attacked in Katsina and Bauchi states without any provocation?
“Gen. Danjuma and his cohorts should know that I remain resolute on my position in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, that President Goodluck Jonathan must win this election for Nigeria to continue to stay together.”
