Former Minister of Information and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prof. Jerry Gana, has said Nigeria’s problems are caused by its leaders, adding that they can only be solved with quality leadership.

He made this known over the weekend in   Kaduna during the 2025 reunion of the Northern States Christian Elders Forum (NOSCEF) theme ‘Leading from the front: The role of Christian elders’.

According to him, the country must raise the quality of its leaders, if it wants to end ‘maladministration’.

He added that good leaders do not come from the blue but are deliberately raised through training and mentorship.

He went on to urge political and church  leaders to put efforts into raising high-quality leaders for the country, stressing that the country’s future depends on men and women of character, competence, and integrity.

Speaking at the event, Gana said, “Leaders don’t just emerge; they are deliberately raised.

“Those of us who are elders in the churches and other areas of responsibility must take time to look at people who are endowed with the qualities and characteristics of being good leaders.

“We must train them and prepare them to give good leadership. Nowhere in the world do leaders emerge by accident. They are trained deliberately.”
