Pulisic, despite spending three years at Stamford Bridge is still yet to firmly establish himself as a first-choice winger at the North London club.

Meanwhile, Timo Werner who left Chelsea in the summer has returned to form since moving back to RB Leipzig and Carragher thinks this should motivate Pulisic.

The German whose form dipped while with the Blues, scored his fifth goal of the season in the Champions League on Tuesday night as Leipzig beat Real Madrid 3-2.

Prior to the match, Pulisic was played as a right wingback in Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over RB Salzburg and Carragher felt it was time for him to leave.

“One hundred per cent,” Carragher told CBS Sports when asked if Pulisic should see Werner as an example to leave Stamford Bridge.

“And I just think Pulisic is sort of at that stage now where there’s been a few managerial changes,” he added.

Carragher went on to say even though the American international is getting more time under Chelseas’ new manager Graham Potter this season, it will be a herculean task to break into the Blues’ starting 11.

“But he’s been there a few years now, it hasn’t quite happened for him for whatever reason.

“But eventually you have to make that decision. I don’t think you can continue to be in that position that he’s been in for the last two or three years,” he added.
