It’s laughable to say Ajaero works for APC — NLC Political Commission

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Political Commission has debunked allegation by the leadership of the Labour Party (LP) that NLC president, Joe Ajaero, has an agreement with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to cause crisis in LP.

In a statement on Tuesday, National Publicity Secretary of LP, Obiora Ifoh, alleged that Ajaero mandated the NLC to create a crisis within the LP and destabilise it ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ifoh said, “The Political Commission of the NLC is a front for Comrade Joe Ajaero, which he has empowered for the purpose of his political ambition come 2027.

“The group is unknown to the Labour Party, as such lacks powers to convene a meeting of ‘stakeholders’ to deliberate let alone take any decision which will have a binding effect on a legally constituted party leadership.

“The group has been mandated by Ajaero to ensure that crisis in Labour Party festers ahead of the 2027 by presenting itself as a rallying ground for dissident former members of our party who recently lost the leadership battle in the courts.”

He added, “We are also not unmindful of the political pact the leadership of the NLC has gone into with the current All Progressives Congress-led federal government to destabilise the opposition.”

However, Deputy President of the NLC Political Commission, Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, said on Thursday that the allegation was laughable.

He said, “How can the NLC President, who was almost killed in Imo State, be working for the APC? Is that not laughable? With what happened to Ajaero in that state, we could have shut down the country if we wanted to. We only decided to be mature about it.
