‘It’s a disgrace,’ Odinkalu, others slam Ned Nwoko over comment linking Regina Daniels to drug addiction

Human rights lawyer and former chairman of Nigeria’s National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, has criticized billionaire politician Prince Chinedu Munir Nwoko, popularly known as Ned Nwoko over his public response to allegations of domestic violence made by his wife, Regina Daniels.
In a post on X (Twitter), Odinkalu wrote: “Even if every claim here were to be true, the question remains whether this is an appropriate way to handle this. Your children will read this. I hope u will on reflection realize that this your post is a disgrace and have the good sense to take it down.”

The controversy started after a video surfaced online on October 18, 2025, showing Nollywood actress Regina Daniels tearfully accusing her husband, Senator Nwoko, of domestic violence. The video quickly went viral, raising concerns about her safety and the state of their marriage.
Regina Daniels is a popular Nigerian actress and film producer, known for movies like The Fish Girl and Anger of a Wonder Girl. She began acting as a child and has grown into one of Nollywood’s most recognized young stars. Daniels married Nwoko, in 2019, and they have two sons together.
Following the viral video, Regina’s brother alleged that Nwoko physically assaulted her and sent thugs to threaten their family. Nwoko, however, denied the claims, saying Regina’s behavior was influenced by drugs and alcohol, and accused her of being violent toward his staff and property.
So far, there has been no official police report, and both sides continue to share conflicting reports.
Several Nollywood figures and prominent media personalities have spoken out in support of Regina.
Actress Yvonne Jegede condemned those mocking her, saying, “If she were married to a poor man and he was beating her, would that make a difference? We all have a story. Once violence is involved, leave…”
Actress Georgina Onuoha came to Daniel’s defense and responded to Ned saying, “When she married you she was young…She might go back to you and it is called Stockholm syndrome..”
Arise News anchor Rufai Oseni tweeted on X (formerly Twitter), “Women once he beats you run, don’t say he gives the money and then you continue to endure beating! If he beats you once! He will do it again!”
X users were divided, some users came to her support, some defended Nwoko and others seemed to be happy with her current situation.
One user @angieumoh commented, “This Regina Daniels saga makes me so sad because all of this was very avoidable.”
One user @AdeforRealz came to Nwoko’s defense saying, “Did the old man forced her into the marriage? It’s her decision to forget about her values and career that she was building before agreeing to be his wife. She made the decision to cut short her glory when she stopped that career for some years because the luxury life is sweeter.”
Another user, @Alexandertonyy tweeted, “Ned Nwoko had been living peacefully with his other wives before Regina Daniels came into the picture. He never had any public issues as big as the recent one. Regina should be questioned because she might be the cause of the whole saga. Just my humble opinion.”
While the issue is ongoing, many Nigerians are urging them to settle it quietly and legally, saying Regina Daniels’ safety should come first.
