Iran on Wednesday rejected what it called “malicious” accusations by US media implicating it in a plot to kill former US president, Donald Trump.
CNN and other US media outlets had on Tuesday reported that US authorities received intelligence from a “human source” weeks ago on an alleged Iranian plot against the former president, prompting his protection to be boosted.
Although the reports added that the alleged plot was not linked to Saturday’s shooting at a Trump’s campaign, there were innuendos that the Islamic Republic might be trying to avenge the 2020 killing of Revolutionary Guards commander, Gen Qasem Soleimani, who was killed by US drone strike
Reacting to the allegation, Iran denied any links with the attempted assassination of the former US President

The Iranian Mission to the United Nations said the allegations of attempting to assassinate Trump was “unsubstantiated and malicious.”
The foreign ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanani, however, described Trump as a criminal who will be punished legally.
The mission also said the shooter identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, had no ties to its country.
“From the perspective of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Trump is a criminal who must be prosecuted and punished in a court of law for ordering the assassination of General Soleimani.
“Iran has chosen the legal path to bring him to justice,” Kanani said.
