The Integrated Logistics Services (Intels) has recalled the 600 workers laid off in its subsidiary, AMS, following an ultimatum by the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), recently.

The union disclosed this on Monday, while disclosing that a meeting had been scheduled for Thursday, November 5, 2020 between the two bodies for deliberation on the issue.

Note that the union issued a 21 -day ultimatum to the management of Intels for disengaging the workers without recourse to the union.

The President General of MWUN, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, comfirmed that the workers had been recalled in line with the ultimatum issued to Intels.

Adeyanju stated, “The management of Intels and AMS invited us for a meeting and they were appealing.

“The letter stated that all affected workers had been instructed to go back to work.

“They wrote to us for the second time for postponement of the meeting based on the EndSARS protest by Nigerian youths.”

While reacting on the 21-day ultimatum issued to shipping companies over the gridlock along the port corridors, Adeyanju stressed the need to review the warning, urging stakeholders to be on the same page to tackle the gridlock along the road.

He also accused the shipping lines of indiscriminate parking of containers along the port corridors, which in turn, has led to the gridlock.

“As a responsible organisation, we don’t need to join issues with what is ongoing in the country,” he said.
