INEC declares APC’s Namadi as Jigawa governor-elect

Namadi was declared winner by INEC after polling 618,449 votes to beat Mustapha Lamido of PDP who secured 368,726 votes to come second

The Deputy Governor of Jigawa State and governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Umar Namadi, has won the governorship election in the state.

He was declared the winner of the Saturday election after winning 26 of the 27 local government areas and polling a total of 618,449 votes.

Mustapha Lamido of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second after winning his hometown, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area and securing 368,726 votes. 

The candidate of the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) Aminu Ibrahim, who was unable to win any local government came a distant third with 37,156.

The INEC collation officer for the governorship election in Jigawa, Zaiyanu Umar, who announced Namadi as the governor-elect said he met the requirements of the electoral act. 

Jigawa has a total of 2,351,298 registered voters, out of which 1,073,540 voters were accredited for the governorship election.

A total of 1,052,793 votes were cast out of which 20,226 votes were rejected. Valid votes were 1,032.567
