Mahmoud Yakubu is the problem of Nigeria’s democracy, says Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the November 11 governorship election, Dino Melaye.

INEC yesterday declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the election, Usman Ododo as winner of the Saturday’s election after polling 446,283 votes.  Murtala Ajakla of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) came second with 259,052 votes.

Melaye, who came third in the election with 46,362 votes, said there is no way electoral officials would have access to result sheets which they pre-recorded without the approval of the INEC chairman, whom he said was determined in destroying the country’s democracy.

Recall that several INEC officials were caught with pre-recorded results at several polling units, a situation that led the commission to suspend the election in Ogori Mangogo, one of the local governments where INEC confirmed the fraud was widespread.

He said INEC allowed overvoting in Kogi, especially in the Kogi Central, where candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) hails from.

Citing example, Melaye said in the last presidential election, Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello’s local government, Okene, recorded less than 40,000 votes. He gave the scores of the APC in that election to be 20,000, while the PDP got 12,000 votes. But in this governorship election, APC alone scored 141,538, he said. The registered voters in the area is 151,248 while t hose with PVC less than 120,000.
