  • Imo Assembly rocked by crisis again

The instability at the Imo State House of Assembly deepened on Tuesday with removal of the deputy Speaker, Hon. Amara Iwuanyanwu.

His removal plot was executed amid very tight security during plenary.

The lawmaker representing Orlu state constituency, Hon. Ekene Nnodim, submitted a resolution signed by 18 out of the 27 lawmakers for the removal of Iwuanyanwu as the Deputy Speaker.

Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Paul Emezim, who presided over the plenary, approved  the removal of Hon. Iwuanyanwu.

The recall came four months after the Speaker controversially suspended them over what he called their “unparliamentary conduct.”

The suspension had caused a panic at the plenary as sporadic gunshots rent the air before the Speaker was ferried out of the Assembly complex by his security aides.

The lawmakers recalled were Hon. Kennedy Ibe (Obowo); Hon. Onyemaechi Njoku (Ihitte Uboma); Hon. Uche Ogbuagu (Ikeduru); Hon. Anyadike Nwosu (Ezinihitte Mbaise); Hon. Philip Ejiogu, (Owerri North); and Hon. Dominic Ezerioha (Oru West).
