Former Super Eagles midfielder, Sunday Oliseh has blasted the Nigerian football authorities for their obsession with hiring foreign coaches even when they are relatively unknown.

The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder made this known while speaking with Compete Sports recently, saying it seems Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has written off homegrown coaches.

The NFF after sacking Gernort Rohr for poor performances hired Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro and he is expected to take over from interim coach Austin Eguavoen, who is currently in charge of the team in Cameroon.

Oliseh backed Eguavoen to do well at that tournament beyond the expectations of NFF and in the process retain his position as the Super Eagles gaffer.

He said “Why the fanatical craze to always want to employ a foreign coach for the Super Eagles, that is the thing I still can’t get my head around.

“Is it telling all Nigerian coaches and Nigerian people they are not capable of coaching the Super Eagles?

“I am even tempted to call it loss of ideas to always want to take a foreign coach. We always take coaches nobody knows before they come to Nigeria.

“I’m looking forward to Austin Eguavoen performance, I’m very optimistic, I’m in total support of his being there. In fact, I hope he can do well and can continue with the job after the tournament no matter what has been said before.”
