I’m not leaving Labour Party, Obi clarifies after Obidient Movement controversy
By Jeffrey Agbo
Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has said that he is not leaving the party following the controversy around the creation of the Obidient Movement Directorate.
Obi stated this on Thursday evening on X after a journalist met him at Abuja airport and asked if his statement on Obidient Movement on Wednesday was a signal that he wanted to leave the party.
The former governor of Anambra State had said on Wednesday that the Obidient Movement was a national movement which cannot be boxed into a political party.
The party has since renamed it the Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration.
Speaking on his future, Obi said: “For the avoidance of doubt, ‘I remain a committed, Loyal Labour Party member’. That is my definitive response to all Nigerians who may be in doubt about my party affiliation in the light of recent reports and conflicting interpretations of recent political expressions.
