Iheanacho shifts focus to EPL after AFCON exit

Iheanacho bemoaned Eagles ousted from AFCON in the round of 16 by the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia having finished top of their group

Leicester City and Nigeria striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, has expressed his disappointment at the elimination of the Super Eagles from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Nigeria were surprisingly ousted from AFCON in the round of 16 after losing 1-0 against Tunisia having gained the maximum points from the group stages

The 2021 AFCON ended on Sunday, with the Pharaohs of Egypt losing to Senegal on penalty in the final.

However, Iheanacho, who was the match-winner for Nigeria against Egypt, has said despite the disappointment of not going far in AFCON he was happy to be back at Leicester City. 

He went further to say he has now turned his attention to the English Premier League (EPL).

Iheanacho told LCFC TV, “I’m happy to be back,” 

He added, “Obviously, I’m gutted that [Nigeria] are out of [AFCON], but now I need to focus on the club duties. I’m happy to be back and into games straight away.”

The Nigerian striker also spoke about their preparation for the FA Cup fourth round game against Nottingham Forest, which they lost embarrassingly.  

He said before the game, “It’ll be a big one, a rivalry, so hopefully we’ll give the fans a good game and we’ll win the game.”
