IGP to officers: What you do in service can earn you heaven or hell

The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has admonished the police personnel in the country to be faithful, honest and morally upright in their service so that they could receive eternal reward and not damnation

He said police officers and men could through their service earn heaven or hell depending on how they carry out their responsibilities.

Baba gave the charge at the headquarters of the Kwara State police command in Ilorin on Wednesday during his one-day working visit to the command.

He said the police render social service and that as a result it is important for them to serve with honesty and the interest of peace and progress of the society and development of humanity.

The police boss said when the personnel do this they would be entitled to good reward not only while on earth but also after their transition.

He said such service would also make the police to earn respect from members of the society.

Baba asked his men to always be obedient to the constituted authority and warned them not to encourage bribery and corruption

He said: “You should always serve with commitment and honesty. When you are dedicated, honest and selfless in service, your reward is not only here but also in heaven.

“The police job is a social service and it is better that you serve faithfully and honestly. Your uniform can lead you to heaven or hell depending on how you make use of it.”

Baba said that the police authorities are committed to constant retraining of the police personnel because there is need for improved performance of the personnel on security, peace keeping and maintenance of law and order in the country.

He said while more recruitments would be made into the police, the training and retraining of the personnel would always be given required attention.

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Tuesday Assayomo, who welcomed the police chief to the command urged him to come to the aid of the command in terms of more weapons and gadgets for the maintenance of security, law and order and keeping of peace in the state.
