IGP claims crime rate is on the decline in Nigeria

IGP also said President Tinubu wants the security heads to synergise and bring crime to the barest minimum

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has claimed that crime rate in the country has reduced.

He made that assertion on Friday, while addressing State House reporters after meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

The IGP who was in the company of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, also noted that the president wants the security heads to synergise and bring crime to the barest minimum.

Briefing newsmen in Abuja, Egbetokun said, “Mr President is satisfied with our report; he has challenged us to continue to work together and improve our synergy.”

He added, “We have records of all reported crimes across the country and can tell you that crime rate is declining in Nigeria.

“Records don’t lie; the records are there so I can assure you that we will continue to do what we are doing to maintain the decline in the crime rate.”

Also speaking at the press conference, the Chief of Defence Staff called on citizens to join hands together in the fight against crime.
