ICPC arrests D’Banj for allegedly diverting N-Power fund

D’Banj who had failed to honour his summons for months, finally surrendered himself on Tuesday after ICPC threatened to arrest him

Ace singer and songwriter, Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo better known as 

D’banj has been arrested and detained by The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, (ICPC).

According to reports obtained by TheNiche, the musician was picked up on Tuesday, December 6, after allegedly diverting funds earmarked by the Nigerian government for the N-Power project, an empowerment programme set up by the Nigerian government in 2016. 

It was learnt that the singer, who had failed to honour his summons for months, finally surrendered himself on Tuesday after ICPC threatened to arrest him anywhere in Nigeria and abroad.

Investigators allege that D’banj colluded with some compromised government officials to introduce ghost beneficiaries into the payroll of the scheme. The stipends paid to those beneficiaries are then paid to accounts that have now allegedly been linked to the music star.

Reacting to the allegation that he was detained, a close associate of the singer, Mallam Yankee, denied his arrest.

According to him, the singer was invited by the anti-graft agency but was not never arrested, as he was not the person they are looking for.

He said, “I’m aware, he was invited and not arrested. The person they are looking for is his business partner,”
