I won’t go to Qatar if Eagles fail to qualify, says Aliko Dangote

Dangote has said Super Eagles win again the Black Stars is crucial, as it remains his only motivation to attend this year’s World Cup

Business mogul and football enthusiast, Aliko Dangote has said he won’t be making the trip to Qatar, the venue of the 2022 World Cup if the Super Eagles fail to qualify for the biggest soccer fiesta.

Nigeria are expected to clash with their West African neighbour and arch rival Ghana in a playoff that will determine which country would be among the five teams that will make it to Qatar in March. 

Dangote, who is an avid Super Eagles supporter and Africa’s richest man with a net worth of $13.9 billion, said Nigerias’ passage to the 2022 World Cup is not negotiable and important to Nigerians.

He made the statement on Thursday when he toured the pitch of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, which is scheduled to host the return leg of the double-header clash against the Black Stars.

Nigeria will qualify for the World Cup for the seventh time, if they can scale the Ghana huddle, having previously qualified for six of the last seven tournaments.

Dangote when asked about the game against Ghana which will ensure their presence in Qatar, the billionaire businessman said: 

 “It is not only important to me, it is important to all of us here, that is what will make us proud as Nigerians.

“If Nigeria does not qualify, I won’t go there.”
