A commercial driver with two wives, Yusuf Waheed, has told the men of the Ondo State Police Command how he lured his passenger into the bush and raped her before dispossessing her of her valuables. Waheed from Iwo in Osun State, who blamed the act on the devil, said that the beauty of the undergraduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, made him to forcibly have canal knowledge of the girl. Waheed, who claimed to have regretted his action, said that he would kill anybody that rapes his daughter.
The suspect and others were paraded by the police in Akure at the weekend where he confessed to the crime, explaining that he was arrested with the aid of the phone he took from the lady, saying, “it was the handiwork of the devil”.
The 30-year-old suspect who said that he was married to two wives said that he had been driving for the past 13 years.
He said: “I don’t know what came over me that day. I veered off the road and ordered the girl to get down and I raped her and collected her phone. I took her phone and I went to Abeokuta, which was my base before I was arrested.
“The detectives used the phone to track me because I started using her phone when my phone battery went flat. I never engaged in this type of crime in my life.” The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph, said that Waheed allegedly raped and dispossessed one of his passengers of her valuables. He said Waheed committed the crime about 8p.m. while conveying the victim and other passengers to Ilesha and Ile-Ife, in Osun State from Akure.
He was, however, arrested in Abeokuta. Joseph explained that the victim and other passengers boarded the vehicle from Agbogbo area of Akure to Osun State but other passengers had come down from the vehicle at their various destinations, leaving the victim and the driver in the car.
The PPRO said that the driver suddenly veered into the bush and forcibly had carnal knowledge of the victim at the side of the road after threatening the victim with knives. He said that the suspect brought out knives to scare the young lady before he raped her and took some items which included Ipad, handset, N40,000 and some other valuables from the victim. Joseph said the victim, a student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, approached the station to report the incident.
According to him, upon receiving the complaint, detectives from the command swung into action and Waheed was arrested in Abeokuta, Ogun State. He said: “A search warrant was executed in the house of the suspect and one flash drive with cover of the IPad belonging to the victim was recovered, while a Sharon space bus with registration KTU 989 CE which is the objective of the crime was also recovered.”
