Saraki said he honestly thought Buhari had something to offer Nigeria, the reason he supported him. He said his support for Buhari in 2015 was influenced by the insecurity and the corruption in the country. He said with so much talk about Buhari’s integrity, plus he was a retired General, he felt Buhari could do the job.

Saraki said when he saw that Buhari was failing in the basics of governance, he had to part ways with him.

Saraki was also asked about the EndSARS protest and if elected, what he would do to reform the police.

The former Senate president said the National Assembly under his leadership was the first to pass the Police Reform Bill, but that typical of Buhari, he refused to sign it on the ground of some flimsy reasons. He said when eventually the next National Assembly passed the bill and Buhari signed it, the difference with the version the Senate under him passed was just a sentence.

Saraki also said if it was during his time as Senate President, the actors of the  October 20, 2020 shooting of peaceful protesters at Lekki would have been held to account by way of Senate probe.
