Model and Big Brother Nigeria Season 6 ex-housemate, Yousef, has revealed that his mission in the BBNaija house was to represent the North.
He made this known in a PUNCH Live interview yesterday, after his exit from the TV reality show on Sunday.
According to the teacher, representation for the North in the TV reality show has been lacking before he came on board.
“What pushed me was that a lot of people from the North haven’t really been represented in the show. So I just wanted to make history in the entertainment industry. I wanted it as much as possible.
“I just wanted to make history. I just wanted to go to BBNaija as it’s the biggest platform for any youth out there.
“It was going to change my life and at that moment, things were not going well at home. I was just looking for that dream,” he said
Yousef further said he has done well and made his mark on the show, he also felt his participation has made the show more popular in the north and that his life will never remain the same again.
“I think a lot of people started watching the show from that part of the North. They were watching the show because of me and I was surprised.
“Big brother is the biggest platform all over Africa. It’s a place where anybody can make their dreams come through. Big Brother has changed my life from nothing to something.
“BBNaija is a place you can go as far as possible. You can skyrocket from one night to two months. Big Brother has changed my life in just two months,” Yousef told The Punch.
But a quick fact check by TheNiche shows that he was not quite factual as he is not the first Northerner to be on BBNaija show.
The first edition of BBNaija which held in 2006 was won by a Northerner, Katung, who incidentally hails from Jos.
That same edition, BBNaija season 1, also featured the current host of the show, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.
Besides, some of his former colleagues in the ongoing season 6 edition, Jackie B, Saskay and Sammie, are also from the North.
Therefore, Yousef’s claim of popularizing the show in the North is not entirely true.
However, it will be correct to say that he is the first known housemate of Northern extraction, who is a Muslim and therefore, might have aroused the interest of people of the faith, who hitherto were not interested in the show.
