The legal noose seems to be tightening around the neck of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, following the order by the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba, that his indictment by the Federal Bureau Investigation (FBI) be reviewed immediately.
Documents which emerged on Wednesday from the United States Attorney’s Office, Central District of California, relating to the suspected internet fraudster Ramon Abbas, aka Hushpuppi, currently standing trial for alleged fraud in America, indicted Kyari.
Subsequently, he is on the wanted list of the FBI that has requested for his arrest for allegedly taking bribes from Hushpuppi.
IGP Baba has subsequently ordered for immediate review of the indictment.
A statement by Frank Mba, spokesman of the Nigeria Police, on Thursday, read:
“Sequel to the receipt of allegation and indictment processes from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) against one of the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, DCP Abba Kyari, the Inspector General of Police IGP Usman Alkali Baba psc (+), NPM, fdc has ordered an internal review of the allegations.
“The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to the pursuit of justice and the strengthening of its professional relationship with the FBI and other international partners.
“Further developments on this case will be communicated to members of the public accordingly.”
Kyari has denied the allegations.
