A husband has been arrested by police in Lagos for allegedly stabbing his wife to death in the heat of argument at their home in Oke-Ira Ilogbo Eremi Community, Marogbo, in the Badagry area of the state.
Lagos Police Command spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin disclosed that Peter Dike allegedly stabbed his wife to death with a kitchen knife during a heated argument that escalated into a violent fight in their home on Wednesday.
This incident adds to the growing list of domestic violence cases ending in the death of women, including in October 2024 when one Motunrayo Olaniyi was arrested for fatally stabbing his newlywed wife, Olajumoke, during an argument on the Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe, in Ikorodu, Lagos
In the latest fatality, Hundeyin disclosed that detectives from Morogbo Police Division were alerted and promptly arrived at the scene.
“The case is confirmed. After a team of detectives who were on surveillance township monitoring patrol in the area got the information, they moved in swiftly and arrested the suspect,” he said.
“One kitchen knife stained with blood was recovered from him. He was brought down to the station and interrogated accordingly.
“He confessed to the crime. The corpse was deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Badagry. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti Yaba.”
At least 133 Nigerian women, including teenagers, fell victim to suspected gender-related violence in 2024, according to the 2024 DOHS Cares Foundation femicide report.
The data was sourced from the foundation’s tracker dashboard, which monitors cases of femicide.
The foundation is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to combating gender-based violence and documenting incidents of such crimes.
