Hundeyin explains how Trump’s presidency led to U.S. Court’s order on FBI, DEA to release alleged drug-related dossier on Tinubu

By Ishaya Ibrahim

Investigative journalist David Hundeyin has revealed how the decision of a U.S. court to order the FBI and DEA to release a dossier on President Bola Tinubu’s alleged drug-related activities in the country was reached.

Recall that the U.S. Court for the District of Columbia recently ordered top U.S. law enforcement agencies to release confidential information generated on President Tinubu during a “purported federal investigation in the 1990s.”

The judge, Beryl Howell, made the order on Tuesday, saying that protecting the information from public disclosure was “neither logical nor plausible.”

The same court and judge had earlier refused granting access to the documents on Tinubu, limiting the release to redacted files which avoided names and family members of Tinubu.

The judge’s decision at the time was based on the arguments of the FBI and DEA claiming the release of unredacted files could be harmful to Tinubu’s privacy.

Hundeyin clarified during an X Space monitored by our reporter on Monday that after the judge limited the release to redacted files, his colleague in the case, Aaron Greenspan, who is an American, appealed the order.

Hundeyin said while the appeal process was ongoing, Trump emerged as U.S. President.

Hundeyin claimed that the current mood in the U.S. does not favour hitherto U.S. allies which the policies and actions of former U.S. administration under Joe Biden seems to protect.

Addressing the issue of whether some of the files marked for release by May 1 this year could be tampered with by the agencies, Hundeyin said that will be difficult because FBI records of investigations are numbered. He said if any of the files was missing, it would be known.
