Huawei awards Nigerian students, signs MoU with NITDA

Three Nigerian students emerged best at the Huawei Global ICT competition at held the company headquarters in Dongguan, China in May.

The students came tops among 49 students out 147 representing 30 countries which competed at the event.

The award presentation held in Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, had in attendance the Director General of National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in attendance, Isa Ali Ibrahim and Vice Chancellors of about 30 Nigerian Universities.

The event also featured the signing of an MoU between Huawei and NITDA for the 2019/2020 edition of the competition.

Ibrahim said the initiative aligns with the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) of the Buhari administration.

“This initiative aligns well with one of our seven (7) pillars – the capacity building pillar which is in line with the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration,” Ibrahim said.

The Chinese ambassador to Nigeria, Zhou Pinjgan said the growth experienced in Nigeria’s tech ecosystem in the past 20 years is due to the fact that Nigerian youths have taken their destinies into their own hands.

Pinjgan said 20 years ago when Huewei came to Nigeria, there were 27,000 mobile phone owners in Nigeria which have increased to 170 million owners today.
