How gunmen killed retired army general and Kwara monarch

After shooting dead the retired army general who is also a monarch in the palace, the gunmen were said to have whisked away his wife and two other people to an unknown destination.

Gunmen have killed the traditional ruler of Koro Ekiti in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, Gen. Segun Aremu (retd).

The gunmen, whose identities and number are yet to be ascertained, were said to have carried out the killing on Thursday night when they invaded the palace of the monarch in the town.

After shooting dead the retired army general-turned-monarch in the palace, they were said to have whisked away his wife and two other people to an unknown destination.

The Kwara State Government which confirmed the development assured that the gunmen would be apprehended.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq condemned the killing, saying it was reckless, shocking, and abominable.

The governor, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, charged the security agencies not to spare any resources to track down the perpetrators, free the spouse and others taken away, and bring them to book.

“We will certainly get the perpetrators and ensure that this is their last crime against humanity,” the governor said.

“My profound condolences go to the people of Koro. Our hearts are broken, and we stand by them at this time and always.”
