Senator Shehu Sani has suggested that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, will suffer at the hands of the ruling party when President Muhammadu Buhari leaves office.
The apex bank’s naira redesign policy has come under heavy criticism both locally and internationally as the public continues to experience difficulty with accessing cash.
President-elect Bola Tinubu has also been critical of the policy, stating that he has his own ideas of how it should work without subjecting the citizenry to hardship. Some ranking members of the APC have also accused Emefiele of deceiving Buhari with the policy with the intention of helping the opposition win the presidential election.

However, the Supreme Court last week extended the validity of the old N200, N500, and N1,000 naira notes till December 31, stating that the CBN must continue to receive the notes from Nigerians. The apex court held that the President’s directive on the redesign of the new notes without due consultation was invalid.
Sani, a social critic and former lawmaker, described the CBN boss’ situation as that of a “Zebra in the hands of tigers,” when Buhari leaves office on May 29.
According to him, Emefiele might not be protected against those who tackled the policy.
“When Baba (Buhari) is gone, Emefiele will be like Zebra in the hands of Tigers,” Sani said in a post via his verified Twitter handle late Saturday.
The ruling APC called for the resignation of Emefiele shortly after the Supreme Court ruling.
The party equally called for the resignation of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
Despite the Supreme Court ruling, the Naira crunch is still biting harder.
