The Bishop of Niger West, Anglican Church, Rev. Johnson Ekwe, has condemned the activities of Fulani herdsmen who go about killing and kidnapping innocent Nigerians.

The cleric spoke during the dedication of Immanuel Anglican Church Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area on Thursday, March 31, 2016.

He said that in Awgu, Enugu State the herdsmen raped two women and killed two persons recently.

According to him, ironically when the police came they rather arrested 76 indigenous farmers of the area and allowed the herdsmen to go free.

He said that the action of the police was enough statement that the herdsmen were getting the backing of the Federal Government.

“One wonders who gave them such sophisticated weapon as AK47”, the bishop said.

The bishop also asked Federal Government to call the governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, to order over what he (bishop) called obnoxious laws of the state against Christians.

He alleged that some churches had been marked for demolition in the state by the Kaduna State government, while reminding the Kaduna State governor that Nigeria is a secular state where freedom of religion of every citizen is guaranteed.

“El-Rufai cannot behave as if Kaduna State is another country. He said that people should be guided by the country’s constitution, which states that every Nigerian has the right to live in any part of the country and practice his religion without any interference”, the bishop said.
