Her dress she flings and bares her virgin breasts

By Lechi Eke

I know a brown sugar girl,

Her gazelle neck to sun-skin-strangers stretches; they beguile,

The yellow sun her diamond eyes hypnotised

With liquor cash and romance her life they enticed

Her dress she flings and bares her virgin breasts

Rounded buttocks untouched she lifts to lap up sun to stay abreast.

Aah Africa

Black and beautiful,

Attractive like sugar to ants;

Aah, how they love you!

Your lovers plenty and strong,

Sugar ants over cake milling o’er you,

They don’t ever leave;

No matter how far they live –

To your death they love.

The yellow sun over her sparkles and shines,

Twisting and turning and laughing she bares

Herself to be wilted and shrunken and blackened –

Her loving sun working hard banging away…

Passing seasons like wind blowing

Bringing the twilight of life, leaving her nothing

But a dark mould caked up by harsh weather

Of the loving yellow sun with a hat in hand bowing his ’bye!

Pregnant with dead consciences

Africa is a continent under siege

Where the leaders borrow to feed their greed

Busy leaders carting away loots for personal gain,

More vital to life and bags of grain

A palatial home in Dubai and flying to world nations

Than pipe borne water and good roads to nationals,

Africa, plundered and scrambled, divided, shared and mutilated,

With colonial hands still in the plough held up by –

Native African hands made strong by greed and gain –

Insatiable, heaping more than can be used–

In their lifetime; denying children, women, and good men –

Of sustenance; hunger, malnutrition, sufferings; pains afflicted:

Diseased nationals beg and lack;

China, economic colonials with no religion –

Sign dotted lines with politicians pregnant –

With dead consciences basking in opulent –

Glory from loots while the people mourn and die!

I knew a beautiful girl…

I knew a beautiful girl

Who knew not herself!

A sense of identity she has not –

No education prepared her for the influx of admirers –

To her coasts – they came in their numbers –

Bringing intoxicants and courteous thunders –

Smiling, black hats in their hands bowing and curtsying –

How to treat a lady they knew.

A lady needs love

A lady needs respect

A lady needs personal cash –

They gave her –

Romancing her all night and

Bringing her to ecstasy land,

They asked for her gold –

She gave it –

They asked for her diamonds –

She waved them to it –

They loved her more and stuffed her purse with cash –

When they reached for her oil –

She said, turn me over and do as you please.

She’s black

She’s beautiful

She’s attractive

And she’s on heat –

Her neck gazelled across the fields –

Across the fields her diamonds sparkled and beckoned;

Lovers came for her with intoxicants and Viagra,

For her insatiable taste –

They robbed her blind.

Today, their hands are still in her plough…

Africa.
