Leeds edged ball possession and shots on target slightly, but Gunners were the ones who made their advantage count.

Both teams made efforts to get a breakthrough in the first half of the game but were unable to put the ball at the back of the net.

Arsenal, however, shot into the lead in the 55th minute, when Calum Chambers converted a pass from Ivorian winger, Nicholas Pepe.

The Gunners ensured the points were safe in the 69th minute when  Edward Nketiah scored to make it 2-0 to Arsenal and take the game beyond Leeds, who will now focus on leaving the Premier League relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Chelsea played Southampton at Stamford Bridge, and they were the first to score in the 44th minute through Kai Havertz, after an assist from Hakim ziyech.

Southampton pegged Chelsea back two minutes into the second half when Che Adams equalized for the away side.

None of the teams could increase their tally before the match referee brought proceedings to an end to rake the game into penalties.

In the penalty shoot-out, Mason Mount, who scored a hat-trick over the weekend missed his spot-kick for Chelsea, while the rest scored.

Southampton however, had only three scorers, as former Gunner, Theo Walcot, and William Smallbone failed to convert their penalties, leaving Chelsea to progress  4-3  on penalties.

In the third game of the day, Sunderland advanced into the quarter-finals after defeating Queens Park Rangers (QPR) on penalties.

QPR missed all but one of their four penalty kicks, while Sunderland scored all the three they played.
