Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, has described the killing of military officers as a more grievous offence, adding that the mass abduction of children is a lesser evil when compared to the former.
He made the comment in a BBC Pidgin interview shared by the news outlet on its Facebook page on Tuesday.
Speaking further in the now-trending video, the controversial Islamic scholar described all activities of the bandits causing chaos across the country as evil, but maintained that abduction is a lesser evil when compared to killing.

Gumi said, “Kidnapping children is a lesser evil than killing soldiers. They are all evil, but killing is worse than abduction. Like what happened in Kebbi, the abducted schoolgirls were released.”
He went on to refute claims that he has links with the terrorists, arguing that he has never met with them privately.
Gumi further stressed that the last time he had a discussion with them in person was in 2021.
Addressing the schoolchildren abducted from a Catholic school in Niger State, the cleric said he had prayed for their escape from the bandits.
