Mayami has had tough times that plagued his career; it was between his music and academic pursuit. His clergy Father who was never in support of his music career has planned a beautiful life outside the spotlight for his son to pick up. Meanwhile, Mayami has found a strong purpose in making music that could relate with people and positively Influence their lives around the world.
While Gthree Mayami carefully narrated the story of how his father became disappointed the first time watching him on local TV stations in Port-Harcourt at his office, after which he offered him a choice to either focus on music or his academics which he has sent him. In Mayami’s words, “It was tough for me at the time. Honestly.” He recounted and added how he was being mocked by friends at the time. Through the pains of those moments, he created one of his biggest and most successful records at the time titled “Alert”, which signaled prayer and a humble request for support from God.
I asked about his Spirituality and the relationship it has with his music, he affirmed his love for God and it has been x-raying through the music he makes which is conscious about positively inspiring and motivating listeners.
According to Gthree Mayami, “Alert is a one-take so many people don’t know. We spent less than 4hrs in making that song, I and my producer Donkayyz”. He said, “And we had an exam we almost missed the same day. I was crying and pouring my heart out on that song. See I’m from the Igbo tribe, I’m the first son in my family and I can’t be a disgrace” He concluded relying hope and faith in Yahweh as he usually refers to God.
According to Mayami, his father calls him his stage name with every glee and gladness. Two years ago, Mayami released his debut EP “Mayami Of Port-Harcourt” which now becomes an expansion of his creative process as well as it lifts his fort towards making appealing pop songs where he talked about women, fun, love, and heartbreak.
Recently he has a single raking numbers and often gains radio airplay. It is titled – “Me and My Guys” where he mends lyrics to expose listeners about considering supporting their peers and family. In his words “Me and my guys is a prayer for my friends. Well you shouldn’t make it alone without your guys and that is what the record is about” he shares with me.
While he has created music with 1dabanton, Hotice Exclusive now known as Altrayd alongside Omah Lay, and more. Currently, he is working on a single which is in progress and has a surprise EP on the way.
