Group urges Oshiomhole to shop for successor within

Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has been urged to narrow his successor to those who have worked closely with him, to ensure continuity and consolidation.

A group called Edo Continuity Forum (ECF), which made the call in Benin City, commended him ahead of his seventh-year anniversary in office and insisted that the state cannot afford a downward trend in development.

ECF Chairman, Sunny Aguebor, said the counsel was given after realising that continuity is pertinent to sustain development.

“We have under studied the activities of this present government since its inception and we are pleased to announce that the government has done very well in the areas of infrastructural development, wealth creation, capacity building and prudent management of scare resources,” he stressed.

He recalled that the administration of former military Governor of old Bendel State, Smauel Ogbemudia, recorded a lot of achievements.

“Between his administration and the coming of the late Ambrose Alli there was a huge gap and downward trend in development because there was no continuity after the initial foundation laid by Ogbemudia.”

After the exit of Alli, he added, Edo suffered from total neglect and a lack of direction.

“The state which used to be the heartbeat of Nigeria was relegated to the background, this trend continues until 2007 when God sent us a political messiah to rescue us from the situation we were.

“Because of the joy and development you have brought to us as a state since your inception in office we implore you as you mark your seventh year anniversary to diligently source for a credible successor within, among those who have worked with you, one who has your political DNA in his blood and has the capacity to advance the agenda and policy of this government.”
