Group calls for total overhaul of PDP, new leadership

-

A pressure group, the Peoples Democratic Party National Reform Group, has called for the total overhaul of the party’s structures to reposition it for the future.

The group in a statement on Monday in Kaduna said it was important for the party to take radical steps in order to reposition itself after the monumental losses it suffered during the concluded general elections.

It suggested the immediate dissolution of the current national leadership of the PDP as a step towards general reform of the party.

The group’s interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Shehu Kura, who signed the statement, said the reform must start before May 29.

It advised that an interim national leadership to serve for a period of six months, be set up to oversee reforms in the party.

The group expressed its solidarity with President Goodluck Jonathan, and urged him to take necessary action to “reform, rebuild and re-organise the party for future electoral victories.”

It blamed the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Muazu of not doing enough to unite, reform and reposition the party for victory during the concluded polls.

The group thanked all PDP supporters and well wishers for their loyalty and goodwill, assuring that the party would offer constructive opposition to the new administration.

“We will provide a constructive opposition for the benefit of the nation and the people; we may be defeated in one election but that does not signal the end or demise of this great party.”
