Manchester City winger, Jack Grealish, has revealed he was close to getting a matching order from the referee during their 3-1 win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.

The England international scored Man City’s second goal to restore the champion’s lead in the second half after Bukayo Saka had cancelled out Kevin De Bruyne’s opener.

Erling Haaland capitalised on errors from the Gunners’ defenders to break away in the 72nd minute and find Ilkay Gundogan, who squared for an unmarked Grealish.

His shot then took a deflection off Tomiyasu to find the net, before Haaland scored the third goal to make the three points safe for Guardiola’s men.

Speaking about the goal on Amazon Prime, Grealish said he thought about pulling his shirt off to celebrate his goal, but later remembered he was on a yellow car and would have received another one.

He said: “I was going to reverse it but then I know Rammers from England and we always have banter, so I thought he’s going to think I’m going to try and reverse it.

“It was due to one of them, just a deflection or something. I was going to take my top off, but I realised I was already on a yellow card so it’s a good job I didn’t.”

Manchester City after the victory leapfrogged north London club, Arsenal, on the Premier League (PL) log table on goals difference with both teams having 51 points each.

They have, however, played a game more than the former league leaders, who visit Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday in PL’s early kick-off game.
