Speaking in his office in Abuja, the Director-General said there was no iota of truth in the story as the Senate President and other government… officials were not scheduled to stay in Brazil for the duration of the World Cup.

“It is not true that the Federal Government delegation abandoned the Super Eagles. They were only scheduled to watch the opening ceremony of the World Cup as well as join in boosting the morale of the players in their first match and they return home,” he said.

Stressing that though the Eagles did not play as expected, Honourable Elegbeleye said, “the Senate President couldn’t have been angry because of that and he did not desert the team as claimed in the reports.”
