Governor Ugwuanyi advises prison inmates on essence of reformation

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has advised prison inmates in  the state to be mindful of their reformation training in the prisons with a view to being better members of the society at the end of their service terms.

The governor reminded them that they should not regard their places of confinement as their permanent places but a momentarily place where they could be reformed for better tomorrow,

 

 

Governor Ugwuanyi in a speech through his deputy, Hon, Cecilia Ezeilo, when he visited the State Maximum Prison Oji River to mark his 100 days in office noted that his administration would continue to give concrete support to the inmates of different Centres as it is the duty of government not only to secure life and properties but to make life more meaningful for all the people.

The governor also paid visit to Oji River Leprosy Centre and Emene Rehabilitation Centre where he enjoined the physically challenged people at the centre to regard their stay as temporal, urging them to take their training seriously now to be better citizens tomorrow.

 

The governor informed them that his essence of visit was to thank them for their support during general elections and inauguration and to enjoin them to celebrate with him on his 100 days in office, coming up next week. He assured them that he would look into their request with
a view to addressing them.

 

 

Earlier in their separate speech, the Controller of Prisons, Enugu State Command, Sir Alloy Uchenna (JP), the Chief Medical Officer in-charge Oji River Leprosy Unit, Dr. Innocent Onwumere and the Principal /Coordinator Emene Rehabilitation Centre, Enugu, Mr. Innocent Agu noted that these inmates would experience affection from this present administration, adding that that the inmates were legally interred and kept away from the public which in turn allow people to sleep confidently with their two eyes closed.

 

 

They thanked his Excellency for making time to come and interact with them and prayed God to continue to direct all his affairs in the state.

 

 

Highlight of the visit was the presentation of bags of rice and money to the inmates and the inspection of the compound by the governor.
