Gov Otu freezes Cross Rivers State’s bank accounts

Otu who was sworn-in as governor on May 29, also appealed to petrol stations in the state to start selling their products

The newly sworn-in governor of Cross River State, Bassey Edet Otu has made a passionate plea to all petrol stations in the state to immediately open and sell their products to the people at approved pump prices. 

The former senator said this on Tuesday, May 30 while speaking with journalists in the state capital, Calabar.

The Governor said: “There is no need to make life too difficult for Cross Riverians. I appeal to oil marketers to open their fuel stations and sell fuel at the approved pump price”.

Otu during the speech, also ordered all banks to freeze all the accounts currently operated by the state government. 

“I have asked all accounts of the state to be frozen immediately and that all transactions be stopped forthwith.

“I have been briefed by the Accountant General and the head of service. I have informed them that we need to do a needs assessment in terms of employment and other things” he added.

Gov Otu went on to add that all internally generated revenue of the state will be channeled into a single account.

Addressing matters relating to security in the state, he told all the criminal elements in the state to take advantage of his amnesty programme or leave. 

“Today we had a meeting with all security chiefs and I reiterated that all criminals in the state should accept our amnesty programme within the window that it will be opened or they must leave the state.” Otu further said. 

Finally, he announced the transition review committee which comprised Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo, as its head, Prof. Eyo Etim Nyong as member and Prof. Owan Enoh as Secretary.
