Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi has approved the setting up of a probe panel to investigate the ‘illicit affair’ allegation levelled against the state’s  Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwalu Sankara.

According to the Hisbah board’s Director General, Dabba Sufi, Sankara was arrested in an uncompleted building with a housewife in Kano, on Friday.

He further said the arrest was made possible through intelligence tracking after receiving a series of complaints about his relationship with the married woman.

However, while reacting to the allegations, Sankara denied them, insisting they were false, baseless, and malicious.

He went on to claim that the accusations were a deliberate attempt to tarnish his image, vowing to take legal action against those responsible for spreading the false claims.

He said, “My attention has been drawn to a recent media report alleging that I, Auwal D. Sankara, Commissioner for Special Duties in the Jigawa State Government, have been arrested by the Kano Hisbah Command on charges of having an affair with a married woman.

“I wish to categorically state that these allegations are entirely false, baseless, and malicious, aimed at tarnishing my reputation. I urge the general public to disregard this fabricated story, concocted by certain political elements to damage my character and integrity”

Despite his denial, the Jigawa State Government said it suspended the commissioner on Saturday to facilitate a thorough investigation, ensure transparency and maintain the integrity of the state.

In a statement on Saturday, the Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, Bala Ibrahim, said “The decision comes in light of recent claims that necessitate a thorough examination to ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of the State Administration.

“The suspension is a precautionary measure intended to facilitate a fair investigation. We take all allegations seriously and are dedicated to upholding the trust of Jigawa citizens in the government.”
