Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, has acknowledged the roles played by President Bola Tinubu and the Department of State Services (DSS) in the capturing of the leader of Mahmuda sect, Abubakar Abba.
He praised both the president and the security agency in a statement posted on Facebook by his chief press secretary, Bologi Ibrahim.
Abba, who is the leader of one of the most feared terror groups in West Africa was recently captured by the DSS.
He was apprehended alive in Wawa, Borgu local government area of Niger State, through an intelligence-led operation by the DSS and ferried to Abuja
Commending President Tinubu for the arrest, Gov Bago described the move as a demonstration of the President’s commitment to the safety and welfare of Nigerians.
He added that Abba “was apprehended alive through an intelligence-led operation by the DSS.”
He further praised President Tinubu’s willpower and commitment to ending insecurity, noting that the arrest was a huge victory for the people and the government.
“Where there is a will, they say, there is a way. Mr. President has consistently shown that willpower. That’s why we are recording such successes,” he said.
The governor went on to pledge his commitment to partnering with the federal government and security agencies.
“Yes, it is true. I can confirm that the leader of Mahmuda, which is one of the most dangerous terror groups in West Africa, Abubakar Abba, has been arrested by the DSS.
“Niger State government will continue to collaborate with the federal government and security agencies to ensure that terrorism is halted in the country.” the governor added.
Bago further commended the DSS for their competence and intelligence in capturing the high-profile terrorist without firing a single shot.
