Gov Alia hails Benue workers, assures he’ll prioritise their welfare in ‘May Day’ message

Gov Alia also encouraged the workers to support his efforts by delivering in their assigned roles and remaining apolitical at all times

Benue State Governor,  Hyacinth Alia has praised workers in the state for their contributions to the state’s development, as they celebrate this year’s “May Day“.

Aligning with the 2024 Labour Day theme, “Ensuring Safety and Health at Work in a Changing Climate,” the governor pointed out his administration’s efforts to prioritize workers’ welfare.

Prior to this, he had promised to clear the backlog of salaries, pensions and gratuity of workers and pensioners he met on assumption of office.

He said this, while addressing a crowd at the Thanksgiving Mass/Reception organised in his honour by his Jechira Intermediate Area “Ityo i Jechira” at the St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church Iorkighir, Tse Agberagba, in Konshisha Local Government Area, LGA of the State.

Speaking at the event, Gov Alia said: “My administration would clear the arrears we inherited from our predecessors, pay pensions and gratuities.

“I must state that in the last 11 months we have recorded remarkable achievements in human capital development, same as in socio-economic, infrastructure, agriculture, health, security sectors amongst others.”

Following up on his earlier pledge in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Gov Alia noted that his administration has renovated the State Secretariat and provided a dedicated 33KVA transformer to ensure a healthy and conducive work environment.

He also assured workers of prompt salary payments,   promising he will pay  attention to promotions, allowances, training and retraining opportunities.

He further stated that workers’ issues will always be a prime concern for his government.

The governor urged workers to embrace transparency, compassion, accountability, and sincerity in their duties.

While wishing the workers a happy celebration, He encouraged them to support his efforts by delivering in their assigned roles and remaining apolitical at all times.
